September has seen movement in world of AdTech, with advertisers lobbying Apple to pause on enabling users to stop tracking from their devices and Oracle announcing a retraction from monitoring third party cookies.

The AdTech world has avoided substantial impact from conceding to consumer preference for a long time, but are now under significant pressure. Apple does not rely on ad revenue, so finds itself on the other side of the argument from the media industry.

The EU and US are scrambling to fix the issues around transfer of personal data between the jurisdictions following the July Schrems II decision. The EU indicating a likely fix by Christmas. Meanwhile Schrems continues to pursue actions against 100 EU based organisations for illegal transfers and is hassling the EU for resolution.

The EU and UK continue the sparring over Brexit, with the EU sending signals about the difficulties in granting the UK adequacy status.

Data Privacy class actions continue to ‘brew’ in the EU, promising a more litigious future.

In the US, momentum continues to extend state privacy legislation to a Federal level, and around the world we see some consolidation and extension of privacy regimes, with significant homage shown to the EU GDPR.
